Well I'll tell you what I think, I think animation has come a long way since the days that Disney's " Old Men" first started making feature length animated movies. That's what I think.
With the advent of full time development companies such as Pixar and Illumination Entertainment, animation on film has become really mainstream. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, no quite the contrary, it is because of this acceptance that we now have so many independents in the field making some really cool stuff of their own. I am not just talking about "Saturday Morning Cartoon" type animation like I take part in. I am talking about truly beautiful pieces of Art caught on film.
Anyone that knows me well already knows I have been and shall always be a huge fan of animated film. While I haven't delved too deeply into the "Anime" side of things yet, chances are if there has been an animated feature film made in the last 50 years I've either already seen it, seen it multiple times, or it is on my list to be seen in the near future. That said, this is not the purpose of this thread.
Commercially released feature length animated films already get all the exposure they could want. This thread is for those independent short animated films that don't have marketing departments promoting them, and giving those films and their animators, some additional exposure and the recognition they truly deserve. People who like me do their animations for the love of animating and nothing more.
My intent is not to critique or review these films (although you are more than welcome to in the comments if you care to do so), but rather to simply expose more people to these nifty little treasures I come across as I surf the intrawebz. Please check back frequently because as I find more I will be adding them to this thread. Think of this as kind of an animated short film festival that will never end.
This is a project I have been pondering for quite a while now and I am finally getting around to it. Likewise it will help me to clear my browser bookmarks out a bit. If you have any animated short films you'd like to suggest by all means send me a link to them, or add them yourself in the comments. I am gonna start with quite a few, so grab your popcorn and enjoy!
Now you're on your own.
