When the world goes to Hell, and the dead walk the Earth, how will you react? When all around you, chaos has taken over, riots ensue, and people are killing people, not just the dead, will you stop believing? Will you be one of the many who believe that God has turned his back on you, or will you be one of the few true believers who still have faith that He has His reasons for all that is happening. In this article I hope to shine light onto both of these options, and give you some hope as well.

If you have read the Bible you know that thousands of years ago God gave up on the people of Earth and caused a great flood. He killed all the people, except a choice few that He helped to escape the devastation. After the waters receded God sent a rainbow as a promise that never again would He end all life by water. However if you think about it, God never said that He would never end all life again. He just said that He wouldn’t use water to do it, so disease and Zombies are still an available option.

Steven King wrote about such an event in his book, and then movie, The Stand. A plague killed off all the people of the Earth except those that God had plans for.  More recently, the character Hershel in AMC’s series The Walking Dead made reference to the Bible in the season two finale when he said, “I can't profess to understand God's plan, but when Christ promised a resurrection of the dead, I just thought he had something a little different in mind.” This quote does have merit, because it is stated in the Bible in Isaiah 26:19:

"Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead."

It is also written in the book of Revelation:

“there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the Earth to kill by sword, famine, and plague, and by wild beasts of the Earth.”

In an earlier passage this is written:

“Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from Earth and to make men slay each other.”

To me these passages speak volumes of the plans for us in the future. God will send a plague across the globe. This plague will cause the dead to walk amongst us, and we will be forced to kill each other. Whether we are killing the dead, who are trying to rip us apart, or we are killing other survivors who think they are the only ones who matter, whatever the situation, man will still be killing man.

Now understandably come the apocalypse, people are not going to want to believe that a just God would have this in mind for his people. They will believe that they have been abandoned by the Lord, or that He never existed to begin with. Faith will dwindle down, and only some will still have it. Stealing will become a way to survive, and killing will becomes second nature, so much so that you will no longer hesitate to kill  the living  if it gets you what you want. Faith will become obsolete, and "survive or be eaten" will become the new rule of thumb for most.

To most marriage will be out of the question, but sex will still be a need. The need to feel close to another human being, even for a meager 15 minutes or less depending on stamina. So pretty much the Ten Commandments will just be thrown out the window.

It has been proven time and time again that when we are in situations of dire need religion becomes a life preserver. Everyone begins to pray to God for help, for support, and guidance when they are desperate. Even those of you who have had little or no faith before will start to pray long and hard when you feel things are about to end. Some will figure if they repent their sins now, they will be saved. When Z-Day arrives confessionals will be filled, churches will overflow, and convents will burst at the seams, all with people trying to get salvation. This being said one of the worst places you can go scavenging post Z-day, is going to be a church, or other religious place of worship. In the event of a natural disaster people always seem to gather at these houses of worship, and so many of the dead are found there.

When the bad things keep happening, even with the increase in prayers, people will start to lose hope and faith. They will fall away from what they thought would be their salvation without having the patience to truly accept that God’s plan may include the devastation of the planet. Those who do stand fast will be ridiculed and terrorized by the rest. Those few who can withstand the torment may either hide their faith, practicing in secret, or remain a steady target.

How long the plague will last is a matter of great controversy amongst the religious community. I don’t personally believe that anyone truly knows, but eventually this too will end. The debate will be settled, as the Lord always sends messengers, people to let the world know what God's plan is and what they need to do. The Bible talks about two witnesses which will be given special powers and abilities to protect themselves and to speak the truth to all who might hear. After they are finished testifying they will be killed. Their prone bodies will lie in the street for 3 and a half days before the voice of God will call them back up. But the idea is that all will be allowed to know the truth but very few will follow it.

Eventually all will play out how it has been foreseen. Heaven will run rampant with the halleluiah’s of the saints praising God. Hell will be filled with those damned by their own choices, screaming in agony and torment, not knowing where everyone else is. In the end, God's will shall be done. Until then we must struggle through as best as we can. We may never know what the future holds for us individually, but we can always strive to make the world a better place.
